School of Journalism & Communication, Press Club Kottayam

School of Journalism and Visual communication has been on a thriving path for the past 20 years since its inception in 1989.  We have nurtured more than 650 young promising   Journalists during this span of years.

As an institute run by Media fraternity, we focus on the practical part of Journalism than textbooks. It’s with the furthest happiness we can convey that The vision of our founding fathers proved right when trained students found placements in leading Newspapers and News channels and other Electronic & Online media.

In each batch, we create 3 or 4 groups and assign them for Diploma films ( Short films and documentaries ) on various socially relevant subjects. It is proud to convey that some of our student short films bagged awards in different festivals. As part of our curriculum, we are conducting study tours to TV and Radio stations, Kerala Assembly,  and historically important places.

Lab Journals

Every year, the school will publish at least 10 lab journals prepared by students themselves. (report edit & design)  We attain another goal when RNI award registration for our Journal – Young Journalist -in the year 2010.

 Photojournalism Course

We gave much priority for training in News Photography and Videography as part of the curriculum.  Institute also conducts a short term course in News Photography for those who interested to specialize in photography.

Music Legend K J Yesudas lightened the lamp of this first-ever venture photojournalism three months certificate course, in 2007, which has completed 27 batches. 400 students came out in flying colors students conduct photography exhibitions to display their outstanding photos.

Media Interaction

We also provide venues for our students to attend Press Conferences,  Meet the Press by Ministers and other dignitaries and Virtual chat shows.
